Treasure of the Heart

February 2, 2025 Vol. 2 Issue 1

Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (KJV)

Treasure Definition: a valuable or valued item. ----- “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.” Matthew 6:19 (KJV)

Where is your Treasure?

Situation: Jesus is continuing his “Sermon on the Mount”, providing instructions on how to live a life that would be pleasing to God.  He covers many topics such as respect to man, respect to God, giving, prayer, fasting, and materialism.  We are going to talk about materialism.

Observation:  Because Jesus took time to specify not storing up for yourself material treasures on earth, it is import for us to understand the reason why.  Further in this lesson we will find that Jesus teaches that if we seek the things of Gods Kingdom first, that all the other things that we will need will be given/provided for us.  Jesus did not want our heart currupted by greed and worldly desires.  Jesus tells us that we have to choose, either to give our heart soley to God or to surrender ourselves to the treasures of life or the things that we value more than God.

Inspiration:  Take the time to evaluate your life and the things that are most important to you.  And then answer the above question, where is your treasure?  Is your life centered on God or is it centered on money, power, position, fame.  You may say that your Heart is fully committed to Christ, but remember actions speak louder than words.  Do you find yourself following the standards of God as they are outlined in the Word (“BIBLE”) or do you concern yourself with the things of the world.  An example of this would be, you have time to watch your favorate TV show, but not time to read your Bible. You look at TV for 4 hours and read your Bible for 10 minutes before falling asleep.  These are just small examples but the point is, we will act on the things that is most important to our heartsJesus should be the center of your heart.

Application:  Can you imagine being married and only talking to your spouse once a month?  I mean you can see your spouse going about his/her everyday activities, doing for others, appreciating others, thanking others and talking about how much they Love you.  But he/she never seems to have time for you.  WOULD YOU FEEL LOVED?  God wants intimate time with you.  He wants a relationship with you.  He does not want the last 10 minutes of your day that you have left over.  He wants to be first in your life.  Love God with all your HEART; and put your Treasure in Heavan and begin to delight in the things of God.
